Sittin’ and thinkin’: After experiencing a very trying time of discomfort and distress during the recent unusual winter storm, this thought provoking poem written by my friend, Dr. Emma York, puts our human choices and values into perspective.
How do I (i) See Myself
In times of crises, when I fall down, Do I get up? Or wallow on the ground? What do I do?
When others are hungry, do I share? Or, turn my back because I don’t care? What do I do?
For my fellow man, does my heart overflow with love? Or, seethe in a boiling caldron of hate?
How do I feel?
Do I fulfill my dreams? Or, let them fade away? How do I see myself?
Do I wear a smile on my face? Or, do I frown on the whole human race? How do I see myself?
When I am tossed about on the stormy seas of life, do I drown? Or do I rebound? What do I do?
And when my life on earth is done, and the battle has been won? How will I (i) feel? How will I (i) see myself?
