To: Rebecca Farris on the celebration of her birthday. Lets just say that her accomplishments have been outstanding and represent a life of teaching and serving wherever/whenever the occasion required her presence. This was done in a few short years (I will let her tell you how many). Be it known that the entire Mel Roland family expresses love and prayers for God’s richest blessings throughout the year.
Prayers and concern for: Joe Beeland and continued concern for Marcia Purvis, Maxine Crapps Smith, Mel Roland, Don Sybil and Danny Cooper.
Sympathy to the families of: Correction-Jewel Dean (not Bean) Hall Eady, Barbara Taylor of Ralieigh, Deborah Ann Able, Brenda Holmes Kuriger, Ray Stiltner and Theda Paget Alford.
Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Rebecca and Jimmy Farris report enjoying a celebration of her Birthday Anniversary in her home town, Greenwood, with family members (three siblings). They also enjoyed attending services at Grenada UMC where Morton native son, Rev. Daniel Herring is pastor.
Sittin’ and thinkin’: June-named for the Roman goddess Juno, patroness of mariage and the well being of women. Also from the Latin word juvenis “Young People.” There are two solstices (June the longest day of the year in the Western Hemisphere) and December. Does the solstice occur at he same time or in different times across the world? The exact same instant of time. On the solstice, is the Earth closest or fartherest from the sun? Fartherest! Surprised? It’s not the distance but Earth’s tilt that matters. With all that info, most people only care about one single solstice fact. “It’s the start of summer!” (Or winter if you live south of the equater).
