The Morton Lady Panthers defeated Greene County 60-31 last week to advance to Friday night’s third round match against Choctaw Central at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The girls take to the court at 7:00 p.m. Above, Coach Perry Fletcher points to the heavens as he always does. The Panthers defeated Lawrence County 43-34 last week to advance to Friday night’s 8:30 p.m. third round playoff game against Pass Christian, also at GCCC.

The Sebastopol Lady Bobcats defeated Bogue Chitto to advance to the third round of the playoffs. The Lady Bobcats will take on Simmons today, Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Raymond. School will dismiss early at noon to allow fans to travel to Raymond for the 4:00 p.m. match. Mailee Wilson and Jaiden Williams battle for a rebound.

Michael James, a transfer from Meridian Community College, had the game-winner for Mississippi Valley State on Saturday against Texas Southern at home.
Michael James, a transfer from Meridian Community College and product of H.W. Byers High School in Byhalia, has emerged as the leader of the Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball team this season.
The 6-foot-1 junior lifted the Delta Devils to victory Saturday, only their second of the season, as he stole the in-bounds pass with seconds remaining on the clock to help MVSU claim a 72-71 Southwestern Athletic Conference win over visiting Texas Southern at the Harrison HPER Complex in Itta Bena.

Services for Brent Comans will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Sebastopol Baptist Church. Bro. Michael Smith and Bro. Don Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Sebastopol City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Sebastopol Baptist Church. Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to church service.
Mr. Comans, 60, of Sebastopol passed away Friday, February 20, 2026.

University of Mississippi Medical Center has closed all of its clinics on Thursday to a cybersecurity attack.
UMMC issued the following statement:
"Due to a cybersecurity attack, many UMMC IT systems are down, including access to our electronic medical records, Epic.
"Today, all UMMC clinic locations statewide are closed. Outpatient and ambulatory surgeries/procedures and imaging appointments are cancelled and will be rescheduled. Hospital services are continuing for our patients using downtime procedures.

Congratulations to the Sebastopol Lady Bobcats, above, who won the District championship last week, and defeated Riverside 54-31 Monday night to advance to round two of the playoffs against Bogue Chitto on Friday. The Lake Lady Hornets also won their first round playoff game 41-34 over Enterprise Monday night and advance to the second round against the winner of Tuesday night’s game between Lloyd Star and East Marion. Morton’s Lady Panthers defeated West Lauderdale Monday night in the first round 67-35 and advance to take on Greene County Friday night in round two.
