It’s time to talk about what Mississippians do best, which is play and support college baseball. Mississippi State is a consensus top 5 team. Southern Miss is consistently a top 25 team and Rick says Ole Miss is underrated.

Trinidad Chambliss apparently will make an encore performance after leading Ole Miss to the most successful season in school history.
In a tiny town of about 150 people, with at least that many spectators in a Calhoun County courtroom on Thursday, Chancery Judge Robert Whitwell granted 23-year-old Chambliss a temporary restraining order against the NCAA after day-long court proceedings.

Judge Robert Whitwell found the NCAA’s denial of a sixth year of eligibility for the Ole Miss quarterback to be in bad faith, holding that officials had ignored evidence of medical incapacitation early in Chambliss’ collegiate career.
Judge Robert Whitwell granted Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss motion for a preliminary injunction late Thursday from his bench in that Calhoun County Courthouse. Chambliss was challenging the NCAA’s decision not to grant a sixth year of eligibility to play college football.

The sky must have fallen. I never thought it could happen. But it did. I actually agreed with most of what liberal Robert Wise wrote in the NSS on January 30. He criticized Trump for his statements on taking over Greenland. Trump antagonized the Danes {owners of Greenland) and also NATO with his brash approach. If he had taken a softer approach, he would have gained friends instead of generating bad feelings. They would have been grateful to him and to the USA for setting up a "golden dome" defense for them (and also for us) at the northernmost extremity of their Greenland island.

One measure would extend the validity of medical cannabis cards while another would create the “Right to Try Medical Cannabis Act.”
Two bills related to Mississippi’s medical cannabis program passed in the House of Representatives this week.
One bill extends the timeframe for a patient’s follow-up visit to keep their medical cannabis card valid, while a second bill creates a system where patients suffering from debilitating or terminal conditions not already on the state’s list of approved conditions can petition to try medical cannabis.

In a sure sign that spring is not far behind, the first purple martins of the year have been spotted in Mississippi.
The birds were seen on Jan. 31 in Gautier, Mississippi, by a purple martin enthusiast – one of many throughout the eastern and central United States who track and report on the birds’ annual migration on behalf of the Purple Martin Conservation Association (PMCA). The migration of these unique birds can be reported and tracked through a community science project called the Scout-Arrival Study.

Last month the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks Fisheries team spread 300 tons of agricultural lime into Shadow Lake at Roosevelt State Park to help improve water quality.
According to a post on the MDWFP Facebook page, lime helps balance water chemistry and makes nutrients more effective, leading to healthy algae blooms called phytoplankton. These blooms are the foundation of the lake’s food web. Those algae support young fish during critical early life stages, resulting in stronger recruitment and healthier fish populations.

There has got to be a better way to wrap up chickens, on the way to the slaughter house in frigid weather, than with a giant roll of Saran Wrap. Last week, on one of our coldest days, a loaded chicken truck pulled out in front of me from Hayes Road onto Hwy. 21 headed to Forest. By the time we got to the swamp the plastic wrap was blowing in the breeze like the tail of some giant kite.

Opponents of Mississippi U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) are attempting to use a committee vote on a proposed amendment that was ruled to be not germane to the measure at hand as fodder on the campaign trail.
